High Impact Windows & Hurricane Resistant Shutters > Hollywood > Broward County
Anyone who has lived in Broward County, Florida knows that hurricanes happen. With high impact resistant windows you can protect your home from this yearly problem. While you can technically sit inside your house during a hurricane watching the winds, water, and wind-carried projectiles doing their worst through your newly installed high impact resistant windows, Able Quality Services offers an additional level of protection. These hurricane resistant accordian shutters shown in the picture above will increase your hurricane preparedness dramatically. Some Hollywood, Broward County, home owner insurance policies will even feature a discount for hurricane resistant windows and shutters.
Able Quality Services maintains full compliance with Miami-Dade county’s building code compliance office for high impact windows and hurricane resistant accordian shutters before installation. By choosing to comply with Miami-Dade county’s building code regardless of whether you live in Dade, Palm Beach, or Broward county, we make sure that the impact resistant windows and hurricane shutters installed in your home meet the strictest requirements in the country. The following tests have been performed for all of our hurricane resistant windows:
Air Infiltration Tests. Called out by FBC, TAS 202-94, no more than the rated amount of air may “leak” either in or out of the windows. Practically speaking, because of this specification, the high impact resistant windows of your Hollywood home will reduce your heating and cooling bills compared to the windows of a normal home.
Uniform Static Air Pressure Tests. Called out by FBC, TAS 202-94, this specifcation requires that your hurricane resistant windows can withstand the called for amount of pressure pushing from wind outside against the windows of your house. Additionally, the spec. regulates how much pressure from the inside of your house pushing out against your windows must be able to be resisted. This is important for Hollywood, Broward County homes as sudden air pressure drops caused by extreme weather events must not “pop” your windows out.
Water Resistance Tests. Called out by FBC, TAS 202-94, this specification requires that your high impact resistant windows will keep the water from a hurricane outside of your home. While hurricane resistant windows will perform better than normal windows in the event of a flood, remember that this specifcation deals with air-borne water slamming into your windows at high velocity, and is NOT meant to turn your house into the proverbial Yellow Submarine.
Large Missile Impact Test. Called out by FBC, TAS 201-94, this is the meat of the “High Impact Resistant Window” specification. Large missiles are the kind of debris picked up at random by a hurricane. Objects such as large flower pots, tree limbs, and patio furniture can all easily become a missile hurled directly into your window. This rating will show you exactly how much force your hurricane resistant windows will withstand.
Cyclic Wind Pressure Loading. Called out by FBC, Tas 203-94, your windows are required to resist the pressure cycles caused by hurricane force winds. Think of an old high school chemistry lab water vacuum. The vacuum creates suction by water pouring down at a right angle to the vacuum tube. A hurricane does the same thing to your windows. First you get a high pressure spike as the wind itself blows onto the window. Then the wind rapidly changes and is now blowing past your window, creating the low pressure vacuum effect. All Broward county hurricane resistant windows must be able to withstand these rapid (near instantanious) pressure changes.
Forced Entry Test. Specification FBC 2411 3.2.1, TAS 202-94 requires that high impact windows provide protection against forced entry. This means your Hollywood home will be protected from a burgler beating on your windows with a baseball bat. While a normal window provides an entry opportunity for thieves, a Hollywood home protected by these high impact windows, will be like a fortress discouraging them from even trying to break in.
